PVF spells out immediate plans

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, president of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation, Wednesday said his goal was to help form a strong team for the 2003 Asian Senior Championship in Islamabad.

“We plan to start regional camps at various centres of the country and then pick really talented players who could make the nucleus of the team for 2003,” he told Dawn at the Liaquat Gymnasium where he came to witness the National Championship matches.

Yaqoob said that the PVF would pick about 18 to 20 boys through the regional camps with some of them going to the provincial teams, others joining the departments while the more talented ones would be selected for the junior team. “These players could eventually make the senior string.”

He said that some players from the current crop of juniors and new ones would be put together to form a team for next year’s Asian Junior Championship in Tehran.

Yaqoob said that an International Coaches Course which was to be organised on the heels of the on-going National Championship will now be held from Dec 23.
