KARACHI, Oct 30: Horse-racing will commence in the city from Sunday after the license was renewed Tuesday until Nov 16, officials said.

The racing license for the Karachi Race Club had expired on Oct 23 which resulted in the cancellation of weekly event which was scheduled for Oct 28.

The KRC officials have further requested the Home Department to renew the racing licence for a one-year period instead of for every three months.

This will help the authorities to chalk out the year’s racing programme well in advance. This will also enable the 170 horses that left for Lahore during the crisis a few months ago to return to their home base in Karachi, not to mention several horses from Lahore paying a visit to city for the big cup events to be held after Eid-ul-Fitr.

With more racing horses available here, the KRC will then be able to hold two racing days in a week, which will surely play a great part in bringing the sport back to normal.

Many racehorses will be arriving from Lahore from next month to vie for top honours in the many classic events like the Pakistan Oaks, Pakistan St. Leger, Colts and Fillies Trials, Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup, 2000 Guineas of Pakistan, not to mention the Nursery Cup and the Christmas Cup which will be held here in the month of December.

More cup events will be held in January and February, then all these highly bred horses will be returning back to Lahore to participate in the new season.
