College teacher exonerated of blasphemy charge

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: An Ulema committee on Monday exonerated a teacher of the Federal Government Girls College, G-10/4, from the charge of committing blasphemy.

The committee comprised Islamabad capital territory chief commissioner, representatives of the Auqaf directorate and four Ulema, Maulana Abdul Aziz Hanif of Ahl-i-Hadith, Maulana Zameer Ahmad Sajid of Brailvi, Maulana Sajjad Hussain Naqvi of Shia and Qari Mohammad Idrees Abbasi of Deobandi. It discussed the incident in which Assistant Prof Munira Mubashar while delivering a lecture of Arabic had used some examples that allegedly amounted to blasphemy.

The committee absolved her with observation that though the words used by the accused did not fall in the category of blasphemy, those were irresponsible.
