LAHORE, Oct 30: The Punjab Information Technology Board has decided to develop and provide teaching material to the private colleges to enhance the quality of computer education.

The PITB has decided to download the teaching materials from the websites of reputed foreign universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Many foreign universities, it is learnt, have placed their teaching materials in their websites and there are no restrictions on their use.

The PITB experts will edit the material and provide it to the private colleges imparting computer education. The PITB is also considering a proposal to offer services of its consultants to these colleges.

Currently, the PITB sources claimed, a majority of private computer colleges was imparting substandard education. They claimed that the institutions lacked adequate faculty and were using poor teaching material. “Even universities are offering computer education through visiting faculty,” the sources said.

Quality teaching material and trained faculty, the sources said, could change this.

It is learnt that the federal government is also considering a proposal to establish an accreditation committee to monitor the standards maintained by the computer colleges.

However, there has been no progress on this front.
