KARACHI, Oct 30: Speakers at a seminar on ‘national solidarity and democracy’ demanded the restoration of democracy for the integrity and solidarity of the country.
The seminar organized by the Pakistan People’s Party at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday also demanded the restoration of the Constitution and the holding of fair elections at the earliest.
Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, president, Sindh, said his party would again strive for the resolution of crises faced by the country.
He said the history of the country bore testimony to the fact that the PPP had always remained in the forefront and never hesitated in rendering sacrifices required for the welfare, solidarity and integrity of the country.
“So much so the founder chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid his life for the solidarity and integrity of the country,” he said.
Considering it as a responsibility, he said, the PPP had again come forward and had brought various political parties, intellectuals and journalists on one platform to seek ways for taking the country out of the present crisis.
Taj Haider, president of Karachi PPP, said that it was high time for all of us to draw lessons from history, and added that the first lesson could be the fact that no country could annihilate another country and make it a subject for permanent annexation.
According to him, not only the armed forces, but the people in fact played a more effective and meaningful role in the defence of a country.
Qamoos Gul Khattak of the Awami National Party said that there was a need for all the political parties to ponder a solution of the crisis and chalk out a line of action.
Ghazi Salahuddin said it was imperative for every individual to make an assessment of the situation to look for a solution of the crisis.
The others who spoke included N.D. Khan, Rashid Rabbani, Haji Muzaffar Shujra and Sabihuddin Ghausi.
