Brahimi holds talks with Sattar

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: Special Envoy of United Nations Secretary-General Lakhdar Brahimi held first set of discussions with Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar here on Monday, the Foreign Office spokesman said.

Mr Brahimi would meet President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday, spokesman Riaz Muhammad Khan said, adding the talks would remain focused on the Afghan situation and the process of establishing a broad-based government in Afghanistan.

Commenting on a report that Mr Brahimi had proposed setting up of a 12-member minister council in Kabul, he said the discussions were in a very initial stage and no such idea had been made by the United Nations.

However, he said, there was consensus among the international community on broad parameters — preservation of territorial integrity and unity of Afghanistan, and inclusion of all segments of Afghan population, including those outside and inside the country, in the future setup.
