KARACHI: Special children entertained

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 29: Over 100 handicapped children were entertained with music and food at an elite fast food outlet on Monday.

Special children from five organizations — Islamic School for Deaf (25 children), Darul Sukoon (20 mentally-handicapped children), Shaheed-i-Millat Special Education Centre (15 visually-impaired children), Hope and Faith (15 mentally- handicapped children) — participated.

Stage artist Farzana Naz, who has volunteered to perform at all such functions, presented national songs and a large number of children danced to the music and enjoyed themselves for many hours.

Social worker and artist, Jimmy Engineer, had organized the function under “Food for Special Children”. He urged the parents of handicapped children to take more care of these special children as they need more love and care than normal children. He also lauded the services of volunteers and teachers associated with the organizations that take care of them.

Speaking on the occasion, Rafiq Rangoonwala, a representative of the restaurant, urged other restaurants and hotels to come forward and open their facilities at least once a month for special children.

He said that a normal person remained oblivious of the problems faced by the handicapped unless he interacted with them to understand and learn about their issues.
