HYDERABAD, Oct 28: The central committee of Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) at a meeting presided over by Mr. Abdul Khaliq Junejo has observed that in order to eliminate terrorism from the world, it was necessary to find out its causes and to remove them.

A statement faxed to Dawn on Sunday said that JSM body discussed the global situation and condemned terrorism in any form and particularly the terrorist incident of September 11 and termed it as a crime against humanity.

The meeting noted that the same elements were involved in terrorist activities, who had been supported by America and Pakistan against Soviet Union.

It added that the US and Pakistan had strengthened fundamentalist forces to crush the nationalist movement.

The meeting condemned the rehabilitation of Afghan refugees in Sindh and termed it a conspiracy to foment religious and ethnic riots in the province.

It called upon the people of Sindh to unite on one platform to launch a joint struggle against the rehabilitation of Afghan refugees in Sindh.

The meeting also appointed different committees for the reorganization of subordinate wings of the party.

SPLA POLLS: Sindh Professors and Lecturers Associations (SPLA) has announced that its annual convention will be held at Government Muslim Science College Hyderabad on Tuesday to elect the central office bearers of the association for the year 2001-2002.

The announcement added that 11 central office bearers had already been elected unopposed and elections for only three posts of president, women vice president and additional secretary will be held.

It said the representatives of SPLA units of 210 colleges will cast votes in the elections.

EXTORTION: The general secretary of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Shabbir Jamali has said that a particular group and the workers of different political parties were extorting money in the name of the central leaders and district office bearers of JSQM throughout Sindh particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad to defame the party.

In a statement here on Saturday, he said that these elements were extorting money from people on the pretext of launching a struggle against anti-Sindh projects, birth and death anniversaries of party leaders and the release of JSQM chairman, Basheer Khan Qureshi and his deputy Dr. Niaz Kalani.

He has appealed to people not to give any donation to such elements and added that the JSQM was launching an operation against these people.

MEAT SELLERS: All Hyderabad Mutton and Fish Dealers Association has appealed to the President Gen Pervez Musharraf and federal minister for food to lift the ban on the sale of mutton on Tuesday and Wednesday and ban the export of mutton to foreign countries.

In a statement here on Saturday, Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah and others said that mutton export to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha was behind its rising prices.

They appealed to the government to lift the ban on the sale of meat on Tuesday and Wednesday, stop its export to foreign countries and transfer the cattle market to Hyderabad as the meat merchants were not provided any security outside the city limits.
