Quake shakes US city, no damage

LOS ANGELES, Oct 28: A small earthquake shook Los Angeles on Sunday morning but there were no immediate reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey said a 3.7-magnitude quake hit at 8:28 a.m. PST with an epicentre 14 kms south of the Los Angeles Civic Center.

The aftershocks began two minutes later with a 3.0-magnitude quake around 16 kms south-southwest of the civic centre and was followed by more than 20 other small quakes ranging from 0.7 to 2.8-magnitude during the next hour.

“There is a lot of activity this morning and it is continuing,” a spokesman for the survey said.

Residents in Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Echo Park called local radio stations to describe a sharp jolt followed by a rolling motion.

Although the quake rattled nerves no damage was immediately reported.—Reuters
