17 killed in held Kashmir


SRINAGAR, Oct 27: At least 17 people, including eight civilians, were killed and several were injured in scattered violence across occupied Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

The latest casualties included six civilians killed by unidentified men who forced their way into their homes in Doda district late on Friday night. Police were hunting the attackers.

Three Mujahideen and an Indian soldier were killed in a clash at Pathri, Poonch district, when the freedom fighters shot dead a constable at Pattan Bazar.

Police claimed four members of the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in a clash with Indian forces and three civilians were injured during an exchange of fire in Rajouri district.

HOLED UP: Three Kashmiri Mujahideen holed themselves up in a mosque on Saturday after a battle with Indian forces.

At least three Mujahideen entered the mosque while two others hid in a residential area. One of the fighters in the residential area was reportedly killed.—Reuters/AFP
