German Chancellor due today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will arrive here on Sunday on an official visit to Pakistan.

He is scheduled to hold meeting with President Gen Pervez Musharraf on regional situation and bilateral matters.

The visit will reiterate the traditional friendship and underline common positions in the international fight against terrorism between Pakistan and Germany.

The talks will concentrate on the stability of the region, the situation in Afghanistan and bilateral issues.

Germany is currently chairing the Afghanistan support group and is very active in organizing and providing international relief for Afghan refugees. Germany only recently pledged more than $26 million for this purpose.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer visited Pakistan on Oct 19, during which he held talks with Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar and called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf. Fischer said on Friday that the escalation of tension between Pakistan and India was a source of serious concern.—APP
