Army, Wapda, Police, Sindh enter semifinals

LAHORE, Oct 27: Title-holders Army, Wapda, Police and Sindh reached the semifinals of the 10th national baseball championship Saturday.

Army face Police in the first semifinal, while Wapda meet Sindh in the second semis Sunday

Apart from the Saturday’s match against Wapda, Punjab also played Police.

The Punjab-Police fixture was postponed as the Army and Police were to replay Friday because their match was postponed due to poor visibility earlier.

Army outclassed Sindh 22-1. However, Sindh qualified for the semifinals on better points.

Army got off to a flying start scoring six runs in the first game and five runs each in the second and third innings. Soldiers scored six runs in the fourth innings.

Sindh could get one run which came in the third game.

For Army, Kamran Mahboob and Arif scored four runs each, Tariq Pasha, Zafar and Abdur Rahman contributed three runs each, Fayyaz added two runs. Asjad Raja, Hasan and Ashiq chipped in with one run each.

For Sindh the solitary run was scored by Qambar.

Wapda routed Punjab 28-0. The winners were on the run scoring spree and collected, six, nine, six and seven runs in the four innings.

Rana Amjad, Saqib Butt and Iftikhar who scored four runs each.

Basit Murtaza, Mohammad Siddique, Abu Bakar, Rizwan and Ali Shah scored three runs each. Mohib scored one run.

Police thrashed Punjab 16-6 in another match. Both the team took a sluggish start and could not score in the first games.

Police accumulated four runs in the second innings and went on scoring seven runs in third innings and added four in the fourth innings.

They got another run in the fifth innings.  Punjab scored three runs each in the second and fifth games.

For Police, Latif Moughal scored four runs. Kamran (3), Ghulam Husain (3), Nasir But (2),  Waqas (2), Shahzad Anwar (1) and Akhtar Khan (1) were the other scorers.

For Punjab, Ijaz-ul-Haq and Mohammad Zohaib contributed two runs each. Shahzad and Ali Khan got one run each.
