NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Oct 27: The Finance Department of Sindh has released Rs4,488,087 to district council Naushahro Feroze on account of octroi tax and district tax share for the month of August on September 26 after 25.125 per cent deduction at source. An equal amount was also released on same account for the month of September.
This was stated in a press release issued by District Coordination Officer, Naushahro Feroze.
Explaining his position regarding non-payment of salaries to staff, the DCO said that amount for the payment reached district accounts office Naushahro Feroze on October 1 but despite directions, the district accounts officer did not release the amount for the reasons best known to him.
The payment of octroi/district tax share to councils was also delayed.
Due to personal intervention and correspondence with the Finance Department, payment was shifted to National Bank Naushahro Feroze in the district provincial account-4 on October 11.
In the meanwhile, most of the council staff went on strike due to non-payment of salaries.
Again due to amendment in rules and procedures to operate the district provincial account, honouring of the cheques jointly signed by DCO and the district Nazim, was delayed by eight more days.
The cheques of octroi/district tax share for the councils were issued on October 15 and payment from National Bank of Naushahro Feroze started on October 19.
Regarding the shares of the UCs, the DCO said that no deduction from octroi tax share of the councils was made by DCO office and same was transferred to all the councils as per their share.
The share for all the councils from district tax was increased from 25 per cent to 40 per cent.
Again from that 40 per cent of district tax, 20 per cent amount was equally distributed among octroi councils and remaining 80 per cent among the non-octroi councils equally, as they had no other resource to meet their expenses,” the DCO said.
