KARACHI, Oct 27: Improvement and redesigning work of the city’s two major roundabouts — Board Office and Water Pump roundabouts — is in its final stages of completion and would be accomplished within the next 20 days.
This was stated by City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, while inaugurating the Aisha Manzil traffic roundabout which has been replaced with traffic signals and redesigned by the city government at a cost of about Rs10 million.
Speaking on the occasion, the City Nazim said that a comprehensive plan was being chalked out to help resolve the city’s lingering transport problems on a permanent basis.
He informed that carpeting of city roads has also been started at a large scale and will be completed soon.
In this regard, he told participants at the ceremony that the reconstruction and redesigning of three other major roundabouts — at Gurumandir, Old Exhibition and Banaras — would be initiated shortly to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
He said that these huge roundabouts, where traffic jams have become a matter of routine, would be replaced by computerized signals and redesigned to remove bottlenecks which often lead to traffic congestion.
The City Nazim said that after taking over the city government, equal attention is being paid on the city’s minor and major problems to ensure their solution.
He said that with the passage of time, the results of their policies and development schemes have started appearing.
The ceremony was addressed, among others, by Gulberg Town Nazim, Farooq Naimatullah and Union Council Nazim, Hakim Mujahid Barkati.
