HYDERABAD, Oct 27: The chief of Awami Tahrik and noted intellectual Mr Rasool Bux Palejo has said that after giving a gift of one million Afghan refugees to Sindh, America will go back from Afghanistan but these refugees will create insurmountable problems for the province.

He was speaking at a seminar on the topic of how to restore peace in the world held in the hall of the Sindhi Language Authority here on Friday night.

The seminar was jointly organised by Centre for Peace and Human Development and Liberal Forum Pakistan.

Palejo said that the difference between the internal policy and foreign policy of America was quite visible because internally America believed in peace within the country but externally it had created lawlessness and terrorism in the world.

Severely criticising extremism and terrorism, he said that the religious forces were unwittingly playing in the hands of America and they were doing no service to Pakistan.

He said it were the religious forces in Afghanistan who had welcomed America against Russia.

He said the fundamentalist elements only wanted to protect their own vested interests and they had no interest in resolving the problems of common people.

AT chief said fundamentalism was the enemy of Islam and extremely harmful for the Muslims.

Speaking on the occasion, noted scientist and intellectual Dr Khushnud Siddiqui, said that the ongoing Afghan war was endangering the global peace and the negative results of this war were adversely affecting all the countries of the world.

Noted agricultural expert Mr M.H. Panhwar said that even the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had changed its attitude and was cooperating with the Sindhi speaking people due to the inordinate increase in the population of Pakhtoons and the Afghan refugees in Sindh.

He said that the influx of Afghan refugees into Sindh will prove extremely harmful for the people of the province.

The director of Liberal Forum Mr Zafarullah Khan said that the American and Western media were being used as a weapon by America to protect its vested interests.

BBC representative Wusatullah said that unless the print and electronic media were freed from the slavery of the rulers, media will not be able to perform any role for the global peace.

The chairman of Sindhi Language Authority Dr Qasim Bughio said that due to the absence of peace, economic and educational activities were being destroyed and the society was being pushed towards darkness.

Prof Mushtaq Mirani said that in absence of democracy peace can never be restored in the world.

SHAH LATIF: Noted writer, intellectual and educationist, Mr Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo has said that during the earlier era of mysticism it was equated with rebellion but with the passage of time it came to be used in literary terms.

He was speaking as chief quest at an evening dedicated to Shah Latif organized by Institute of Modern Sciences and Arts (IMSA) at Gul centre here on Friday.

Mr Joyo spoke exhaustively on Sur Yaman Kalyan and said that Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai supported creative mysticism which taught the people to live for others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Abdur Rehman Siyal said that Shah Latif believed in literature for life and not literature for the sake of literature. He added that Shah Latif’s message was the message of peace.

IMSA vice principal Ms Fareeda Shaikh announced that the institute will regularly hold programmes every month on the poetry of Shah Latif.

The students of the IMSA and Public School Hyderabad recited the verses of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION: Prof Shehzad Leghari and Dr Shafiq Memon saved the life of a kidney patient by performing a successful kidney transplant operation here on Friday at Liaquat Medical University hospital.

Dr Leghari told newsmen that the expenses of the operation of Allah Dino Khaskheli, 35, resident of Husri, were borne by Foundation of Friends of Kidney and Urology Patients.

He said the foundation was rendering services for the people since 1994.

It may be pointed out that Dr Shehzad is the president of this foundation.

He said that after transplantation, the patient was obliged to spend huge amount on medicine throughout his life, which were also provided by the foundation.

He disclosed that the civil hospital had also provided medicines worth Rs40,000 for the treatment of Allah Dino Khaskheli from Zakat fund.

VARSITY: The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has reconstituted the departmental promotions appointment committee to ensure transparency in the appointments and promotions.

Prof Ferozuddin Kazi, registrar of the university will be convener while director finance, controller of examinations and director planning and development will be members of the committee.
