Wapda down Police in replay

LAHORE, Oct 26: Wapda and Army won their matches on the second day of the 10th National Baseball Championship at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex Friday.

In the match spanning over two days, Wapda defeated Police 28-20. The match had to be halted Thursday evening because of poor visibility.

But instead of resuming the match from the overnight score of 18-all, the organizers ordered a restart. It turned out to be a blessing for the winners who made more use of the Thursday’s game and put up an impressive performance.

Police made a good start by scoring three runs in the first innings while Wapda failed to score any in their first innings. However, Wapda lifted the stardard of the game and overcame the deficit by scoring six runs in the second innings as against two by Police.

Both the teams competed well till the sixth innings with the scores tied at 16-all.

However, Wapda scored six runs each in the seventh and eighth games as Police could collect only four runs.

For Wapda, Basit Butt was the top scorer with six runs in which he had a two home-run. Iftikhar Ahmad (one home-run) and Asghar Siddique were the other main scorer with four runs each.

For Police, Latif Moughal, Akhtar Khan and Shabbir scored three runs each. Nasir Butt, Ghulam Husain, Tahir and Kamran contributed two runs apiece.

In the second match, Army thrashed a lowly rated NWFP 18-1.

Army were declared winners at the end of the fourth innings as they had increased the lead to 10.

Kamran, Sarfraz and Tariq Pasha scored three runs each for the winning team. Nisar, Fayyaz and Khalid scored two runs each. NWFP solitary run was scored by Riaz.

Saturday’s fixture: Punjab vs Police; Army vs Sindh; Wapda vs Punjab.
