KARACHI: Bandits shoot doctor, patient to death

KARACHI, Oct 26: Bandits shot a doctor and a patient to death in the doctor’s clinic in Orangi Extension on Friday evening.

The police said that four unidentified armed men entered the clinic-cum- residence of Dr Mohammed Ashraf, aged 40, in Ittehad Town in Orangi Extension, while the doctor was busy in examining a patient.

The bandits demanded cash from the doctor and attempted to force their entry into the house, but the doctor’s wife locked the door from inside and raised alarm.

When the doctor put up resistance to the bandits, they became jittery and opened indiscriminate fire and escaped. The doctor and a patient were wounded.

The doctor was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Sources at the hospital said that the doctor was hit by a bullet that pierced through his head.

The patient, who was identified as Naik Mohammed, aged 35, was rushed to a private hospital where he died.

The SSP West told this reporter that it was a robbery attempt and ruled out the aspect of terrorism.

A man killed his wife, and later committed suicide in his house in Peerabad.

Zehra Bibi, aged 40, used to quarrel with her husband over domestic matters. On Friday Abdul Khaliq, aged 60, lost his temper during an argument and attacked his wife with a heavy metal bar.

She suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, from where she was referred to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where she died.

The police said that after killing his wife, Abdul Khaliq committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house. His body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

The police said that the couple had four children. Abdul Khaliq, who was a daily-wage worker, had been without work for the past several days.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Two persons fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Friday.

A young motorcyclist died in a road accident in Bin Qasim. Ghulam Murtaza, aged 36, was knocked down by a truck while he was negotiating a turn. The man died on the spot.

A milkman, Abbas, was run over by a truck in Jaffar-i-Tayyar Society, Malir.

ROBBERIES: Three robberies were committed in the city on Friday, the police said.

Bandits broke into a house in Joharabad, held the family as hostage at gunpoint, and got away with cash and valuables.

Dacoits robbed Safdar Ali of cash and valuables in the same locality.

Bandits barged into a house in Saeedabad and looted cash and valuables.
