KARACHI: Bomb found in downtown area, defused

KARACHI, Oct 25: A bomb, weighing about one kg, was found outside the PIA Booking Office on M. R. Kiyani Road on Thursday morning. It was defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

A female sweeper, who was working outside the PIA Booking Office and the office of the Turkish Airlines situated at Sidco Centre on M. R. Kiyani Road, spotted a suspicious bottle-like object and informed a passerby, Iqbal, about it. Police said Iqbal, a motor mechanic, informed the Artillery Maidan police station.

Upon receiving the information the Bomb Disposal Squad of district South (BRAVO 1) rushed to the spot and cordoned off the surrounding area.

The in charge of the Squad, ASI Muzaffar, defused the explosive device at 9:45am. Police said only two minutes and 28 seconds were left for the bomb to explode when it was defused.

The bomb was foreign made and weighed about one kilogramme, attached to an electric detonator and a booster. It was connected with a time device.
