KARACHI, Oct 25: The Sindh High Court directed on Thursday an accountability court to hear a reference against a former MNA, Hakim Ali Zardari, on a day-to- day basis.
A division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Mohammed Ashraf Leghari, gave the directive when a bail application filed by Barrister Kamal Azfar on behalf of the accused came up for hearing.
Accordingly, the court then put off the hearing of the bail application till Nov 13.
According to the prosecution, the accused and his wife had purchased a flat in France while their income for the corresponding year was less than the purchase price. The prosecution alleged that the property was bought from wealth accumulated through unfair means.
The same bench also issued notices to the state and the Regional Accountability Bureau for Nov 1 while hearing a constitutional petition filed by a former Sindh minister of food, Maqbool Ahmed Shaikh.
The petitioner impugns an order of the court under which a non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued against him in an accountability reference.
The petitioner maintains that the warrants have been issued without jurisdiction by the trial court.
Suit for damages: The Sindh High Court has directed Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) and a doctor to file comments by Nov 13 in a suit filed by an employee of National Bank for the recovery of damages worth Rs10 million.
Zafar Iqbal Abbasi has made the LNH and Prof Aziz Jamal Naqvi respondent in the case.
The plaintiff was advised to undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and, accordingly, he approached the defendant No 2 for consultation on bypass surgery. He was operated upon on June 6, 2000.
It is the case of the plaintiff that immediately after recovery and regaining consciousness, he noted loss of sensation in the left side rear portion of the head and found a deep burn injury.
Even after being discharged from the hospital, the plaintiff did not find any improvement in the said injury, and insisted on doctors in OPD to take some remedial measures. But he alleged that they paid no attention.
