Police bid to save colleague

By Our Correspondent

JHANG, Oct 24: Chiniot city police are reluctant to register a case against a head-constable and his accomplices despite issuance of orders by the Jhang SSP two weeks ago.

Ihsanullah of Jhang Sadar was on his way to Jhang from Chiniot with tubewell parts worth Rs90,000 loaded on his Mazda pick-up. When he reached near Chiniot city his vehicle was stopped by Head-Constable Riaz Gujjar, who was accompanied by Asad Ali, Zulfiqar and Ejaz, the business rivals of Ihsan.

Riaz asked him to stop plying his pick-up on the Jhang-Chiniot road or he would impound it. On his refusal to do so, the head constable impounded the vehicle. Later, he handed over the pick-up to one of his accomplices, Asad Ali, by preparing forged document. The head-constable took the Rs90,000 tubewell parts loaded on the pick up in his possession.

Ihsan brought the matter to the notice of Jhang SSP who ordered registration of a case after an inquiry found the head-constable guilty.

When contacted, Chiniot city police station SHO told this correspondent that the head-constable was trying to reach a compromise with the complainant, which was causing delay in registration of case.

CASE REGISTERED: Massan police have registered a case against an assistant sub-inspector of Qadirpur police station for letting a hardened criminal escape from his custody.

ASI Mehr Mukhtar Ahmad took Sarfraz Baloch of village Chattha on physical remand in a theft case from Jhang district jail where he was detained in connection with other cases. While on their way to Qadirpur, the police party stopped at Chund Bharwana to have a cup of tea. Sarfraz somehow succeeded in freeing his hands from the handcuffs and fled from the scene. The police party chased him but failed to arrest him.

The ASI has been arrested.
