Rapist of 13 minor girls arrested
FAISALABAD, Oct 24: Local police on Tuesday night claim to have arrested an alleged rapist in Mohallah Yousafabad.
A joint team of the CIA and City police on a tip-off arrested Nazeer Ahmed alias Jeera on the charge of his alleged involvement in debasing a minor girl.
During interrogation, Nazeer confessed that he had molested 13 minor girls in different parts of the city. He also admitted murdering a girl when she raised an alarm a few months ago.
PEACE COMMITTEES: On the orders of the Punjab government, police and the administration will reactivate ‘peace committees’ to create mutual understanding between ulema, traders and activists of religious organizations.
According to official sources, district coordination officers and zila Nazims will nominate ‘sincere and active’ religious leaders chairmen and members of peace committees at tehsil level.
Sources said on Wednesday that police chiefs had been asked to constitute peace committees at police station level with the consultation of nazims and councillors.
JEDDAH FLIGHT: The All Pakistan Cloth Exporters Association (APCEA) has hailed the resumption of weekly flight from Faisalabad to Jeddah.
Talking to newsmen, APCEA chairman Mian Muhammad Latif said being the hub of textile industry, the share of export from Faisalabad was over 1,000 million dollars annually.
He said foreign buyers were interested in including Faisalabad in their business trip to save their time and catch direct international flights.
For this purpose, the APCEA had provided Rs5.5 million for the upgradation of the Faisalabad airport, he said. International flights to Dubai were started two years ago, but were disrupted twice on account of various reasons, he said.
The APCEA chief demanded that the authorities concerned should also resume direct flights to Manchester, Singapore and Dubai in the larger national interest.
TEXTILE QUOTA: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) president appreciated the Commerce ministry in its efforts to help raise 15 per cent quota of value-added textile products for the European Union.
FCCI chief Mian Naimur Rehman said the step would help in reviving sick industrial units and in expanding export beyond the Mediterranean Sea. In the wake of new textile accord with the EU, he suggested that we should move for joint ventures with buyers and companies in the member states.
He said similar accords should be reached with the North Atlantic Free Trade Association (NAFTA), one of the major markets for Pakistani textile exports, and Japan.
LOOTED: Five unidentified armed bandits on Tuesday night looted the house of an assistant superintendent post office in Mansoorabad.
Masked bandits stormed into Muhammad Shafiq’s house, held the inmates hostage and then locked them in a room. They scooped Rs100,000 in cash, ornaments worth Rs250,000 and other valuables and fled.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
