KARACHI, Oct 24: Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission’s Member Power Javed Iqleem has said that nuclear energy is the only viable option for our country as the fossil fuel reserves of Pakistan are scarce and hydro potential is also limited which cannot meet country’s present and future energy requirements.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 30th certificate-awarding ceremony of Kanupp Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering at Karachi Nuclear Power Complex. General Manager of Karachi Nuclear Power Complex Qamarul Huda presided over the ceremony. Director of Kinope Dr Ansar Parvez presented the annual report of the institute.
Mr Iqleem said the PAEC had been entrusted with the job of building, commissioning, maintaining and operating nuclear power plants, says a press release. “As opposed to the fossil fuel plants, nuclear power plants pose no threat to the environment. They do not contribute to global warming and do not lead to acid rains or murky skies. Above all, they decrease the nation’s reliance on oil imports and its fluctuating prices.”
