MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 24: AJK President Mohammad Anwar Khan has said that India’s tactics to delay any solution to the longstanding Kashmir issue are threatening the global peace. and asked the world community to take a serious note of it.
He made this observation, speaking at a grand function held at the K. H. Khurshid Stadium here on Wednesday to mark the 54th anniversary of the foundation day of Azad Kashmir. AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, senior civil officials and a number of other people attended the function.
The president said Oct 24 was also the foundation day of the United Nations, whose role was vital in facilitating a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
He called upon the UN, particularly its security council members, to prevail upon India to grant to the Kashmiris their right to self-determination, which India had itself pledged to them before the international community more than five decades ago.
He said India had shown least respect for international accords or commitments, and that Indian leaders were denying having made any such pledge.
“But it is wishful thinking of Indian leaders that they can make the world believe in their false stand”, the president said, adding what was on the record could not be written off. He urged the world community to take a serious notice of the India’s delaying tactics.
Later, students of the different educational institutions of the AJK capital enthralled the audience with a PT show, a demonstration of gymnastics, martial arts, national songs and tableaus.
The prime minister announced a reward of Rs100,000 each for the performers’ groups.
