PTV thinking of filing contempt case

Published October 24, 2001

ISLAMABAD, Oct 23: The Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) is considering filing a contempt of court application against a newspaper group for trying to influence the court.

Yousaf Beg Mirza, managing director of the PTV, said on Tuesday that the court had vacated the stay order as the PTV was suffering a loss of Rs15 million per month.

He said a writ petition filed by the Combined Media Limited against the PTV was backed by the newspaper group. He said the PTV board of directors had already passed a resolution that print media would not be given prime time on the PTV because of unfair competition in the market, as print media could take undue advantage because of cross holdings.

The MD said the PTV was consulting its lawyers.
