Proteas triumph by record margin

CAPE TOWN, Oct 23: Gary Kirsten and Neil McKenzie scored centuries as South Africa cruised to a record 208-run win over Kenya in the triangular series One-day International Monday (partly reported in Tuesday’s edition).

The home side made a massive total of 354 for three before dismissing Kenya for 146 in 45.3 overs. It was the hosts’ fifth victory in six games in the tournament, and they will play the winners of Wednesday’s match between Kenya and India in the final Friday.

The result bettered South Africa’s previous biggest victory in terms of runs, the 202-run triumph they enjoyed over Kenya in Nairobi in 1996-97.

Thomas Odoyo was the only Kenyan batsman to show worthy resistance in the face of South Africa’s relentless attack, scoring 44 off 57 balls.

Kenya began their innings tentatively, losing their first wicket when Ravindu Shah got a thick edge to a delivery from Shaun Pollock and was caught by Boucher for six.
