LAHORE, Oct 23: National champion Wajid Ali (PTCL) added another feather to his cap winning the fourth  All  Pakistan badminton  tournament men’s singles final at the New Khan court, beating seasoned campaigner and the sixth seed Ali Yar Beg (ABL) in straight games Tuesday.

An irrepresible Wajid needed just only for an half hour to subdue an outclassed Ali Yar Beg 15-6, 15-9.

However, Ali Yar bought partnered by Haroon Kaleem hit back with vengeance to lift the doubles title beating Wajid and Rizwan Rana and 12- 15, 15-12, 15-10.

Wajid was aggressive and never allowed Ali Yar Beg to pose any threat throughout the one-sided proceedings as his powerful smashes and deft placement proved too good for his well-beaten rival. Ali Yar could not display his usual game and most of his smashes found the net.

National champion Wajid required merely 15 minutes to grab the first game 15-6. Ali Yar gave some resistance in the second game but he could do so till 5-5 as from here onwards Wajid changed gear to win the game 15-9 and the title.

Wajid received a glittering cup and a cash prize of Rs 35,000. Ali Yar earned Rs 25,000.

In the well contested doubles’ final which lasted for 90 minutes, Wajid and Rizwan Rana earned the lead by winning the first game after see saw battle 15-12.

Ali Yar and Haroon wasted no time in regaining their strength and potential play and won the second game 15-12 to make the score one-game all.

The offensive Ali Yar Beg and Haroon Kaleem played flawless game and remained ahead throughout the third game which helped them to earn a comfortable victory at 15-10 and to lift the title.

Farzana Shaheen won the ladies’ single title, after facing a tough fight from Saadia Arshad in all-Wapda final.

The score in Farzana favour was 6-11, 11-7, 13-10.

Saadia Arshad started the final in stormy fashion as dropped only six point to win the first game 11-6.

Farzana Shaheen managed to recover from the early shock and won the second game easily 11-7.

However, the third and decisive third game was keenly contested as both fought for each points. Farzana Shaheen, who once was trailing at 7-6, finally reached at the distinction with better smashing and return.

Farzana Shaheen, besides a cup also received Rs 10,000 while Saadia Arshad got Rs 8,000.

Ladies’ singles final: Farzana Shaheen bt Saadia Arshad 6-11, 11-7, 13-10.
