LAHORE, Oct 23: A card of six events has been laid out for the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday.

The events are made up of just ordinary horses, comprising the lower divisions of class VII, from division four to downwards to the bottom division VIII, to be run over six furlongs.

In all, 85 runners will be contesting the events for supremacy, barring last-minute withdrawals.

The feature event, the Melsi Plate, the class VII division IV & V combined handicap race, has a weak field of 14 acceptors, if there are no withdrawals.

They all have been showing inconsistent form. However, four contestants seems to be in the running for the feature event. They are the bay mare River Wild, the bay gelding Fight Again, the chestnut colt Unbeatable and the bay colt Taj-ul-Malook. The winner is likely to emerge from these four.

Great Banquet, a chestnust gelding, looks a cut above the class vis-a-vis his 15 rivals in the fifth and supporting event. The way Great Banquet won a race on Oct 10, there seems every chance of his making it two in-a-row. He has only to beat the bay mare Madam Lorina, the second best among the field of 16 runners.

The first race will start at 12.30 pm.
