JI chief seeks SC intervention: Change in Afghan policy
ISLAMABAD, Oct 23: Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Amir, Jamaat-i-Islami, on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court seeking its intervention “to save the declining graph of national integration” due to sudden change in Pakistan’s Afghan policy.
In the same petition, he requested the apex court to direct the federal and provincial governments not to restrict his movement, which was against the Constitution.
An official of the Supreme Court confirmed that the petition had been filed, but said that no date had so far been fixed for its hearing.
Invoking the apex court’s jurisdiction in matters of “public importance”, the JI chief stated that the present government had taken a U-turn in its policy regarding Afghanistan, for which it had no mandate.
The petition was filed by Sheikh Khizar Hayat.Senior Advocate Mohammad Akram Sheikh will also appear on behalf of the Jamaat-i-Islami.
The petitioner stated that the elected government of Pakistan, according to the wishes of people of the country,had recognized the Taliban government.
“ The present government has taken a U-turn against the desire of the people of Pakistan and has allowed, unconstitutionally, the use of the territory, airspace and all other facilities for the invasion of the friendly people and state of Afghanistan.”
The Qazi stated that the JI was trying to convince the Pakistan government through peaceful means to change its policy to avoid “situation similar to 16th December, 1971.”
He stated:”Allah forbid, the tragedy could revisit this land because of blind and unconditional alliance of military junta with USA’s vested interest policies against unarmed civilians of Afghanistan.”
The JI chief stated that his party had throughout waged a struggle for the development of rule of law, human rights and democracy and had approached the superior judiciary several times for the protection of the Constitution, rule of law, democracy and independence of the judiciary.
He stated that a fundamental change in the ideology of Pakistan by the non-elected government could jeopardize the territorial integrity of the nation.
