KARACHI, Oct 23: The District Coordination Officer (DCO), Shafiqur Rahman Paracha, on Tuesday, visited various areas of Korangi and reviewed the ongoing educational, health and development activities under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

While reviewing construction of road No 10, he observed that the work at the project was standstill owing to the non- carpeting of the road. Similarly, no construction activity appeared to have been undertaken by the contractor for the construction of road No Nine Thousand, Bilal Colony, and Tannery Road Sector 7-A, despite approval of the contract.

The DCO instructed the concerned engineers and officials to undertake drastic measures for rejuvenating the project expeditiously.

It was also decided to initiate carpeting of the Nine and Ten Thousand Roads from Wednesday, besides taking steps to start the construction of Tannery Road Sector 7-A, after removal of the impediments.

Mr Paracha was informed that under the Khushal Pakistan Programme, development activities were continuing on twelve development projects in the area, where seven major roads were also being constructed.

The development activities are being executed with an estimated cost of Rs20.62 million, which also include construction of seven major roads, four sewerage projects and rejuvenation of a school in the area. Besides, an amount of Rs3 million would be incurred for the construction of an additional room and library at a government school adjacent to the Government College for Women in Korangi No 4.

In areas of union council from 69 to 94 of Korangi area, repairing of manholes and sewerage lines are also underway, which would cost Rs0.6 million.

In seven areas of Korangi, construction of different roads are being executed under the KPP, including Road No Ten Thousand with a cost of Rs2.3 million; Road No Nine Thousand Rs2.9 million; Road No Eleven Thousand Rs2.4 million; Road No Sixteen Thousand Rs2.1 million; main double road, Korangi, Rs3.1 million, Tannery Road, Rs2.1 million, and Main Hazar Road Rs0.1 million.

The DCO also visited different dispensaries and educational institutions in Korangi and reviewed their hygienic conditions, provision of health facilities and educational status.

During his visit to Korangi Maternity Home, taking cognizance of the out-of-order condition of X-ray machine for the last three years, and the pathetic attitude of the concerned officials to rejuvenate it, he directed them to undertake measures to make it in a running condition without any further delay.

Expressing disgust over the lack of provision of health facilities to the masses at the health centre, he ordered the doctors to keep complete records of patients admitted to the centre for the treatment and other details, including provision of medicines.

He made it clear to the concerned heads to ensure presence of all paramedics in order to handle any emergency.

The DCO instructed the deputy district officer of the city government to undertake steps for the provision of quality service to all patients admitted to the Korangi Maternity Home and hold regular meetings with concerned doctors and paramedics of the centre.— PPI
