ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: Women personnel of the federal police will be trained in martial art, swimming, driving, shooting, bomb disposal, rescue operation and anti-rioting.

In an effort to combat terrorism and keep high security alert, a “women anti-terrorist squad” has been formed by the senior superintendent of police Islamabad, Nasir Khan Durrani, a spokesman for the police said on Monday.

The anti-terrorist squad will comprising 22 women police constables, recruited on merit. Of the 22 policewomen officers, 10 graduate officers would be given six months training. “A lady instructor has been assigned for their coaching”, he said.

The September 11 events have placed the security services on permanent high alert in Islamabad and Pak army has also been deployed.

The SSP said the aim of “women anti-terrorist squad” was to train women officers in martial art and other required activities to prepare them for high risk activity.

He said,”This is the first time in Pakistan that a women anti-terrorist squad has been formed”.

The district administration Islamabad and police have decided to strictly implement the ban on sale and purchase of fire crackers in the Federal Territory and violators will be dealt according to the law.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Mahmood Khan on Monday held a meeting to review the security measures, a spokesman for the DC said.

The DC Islamabad directed all the assistant commissioners and area magistrates to keep a check on the security arrangements within their respective jurisdictions regularly.

He directed the assistant commissioners to co-ordinate all activities through liaison officers within their area of jurisdiction.
