KARACHI, Oct 22: The Defence Association’s Coordination Committee has drawn attention of the National Reconstruction Bureau towards denial of basic civic rights to Defence residents in Clifton Cantonment Board for the last 20 years and appealed to the NRB to find a solution.
In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the DACC proposed to the NRB that the representation issue could be resolved by setting up two Union Councils within Clifton Cantt and its adjoining areas — one for Defence residents and the other for other areas of Clifton and its adjoining areas.
The resolution has also raised the following points in support of the suggestion of the two UCs:
— why do civilians have B-class rights only in the CCB?
— the DACC has further asked why Defence residents are given no property tax remission even for self-occupied houses.
— why the water shortage problem has not been resolved?
The DACC has further asked why the Clifton Cantt budget was not announced for the knowledge of the taxpayers and if it wasn’t against transparency and good governance.
Regarding car-snatching and robberies in the area, the DACC said that checkpoints need to be established at all entry/exit points as well as a security network set-up by charging Rs50 per house as security tax.
