KARACHI, Oct 22: Every industrialist of Korangi Industrial area will plant 500 saplings within and outside the premises of his entity under the city government’s Green City programme, while the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) will construct beautiful monuments on four roundabouts of Korangi’s Road-8000.

This was announced by KATI chairman Farhanur Rehman at a meeting held under the chairmanship of city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, at Frere Hall on Monday.

The meeting of the industrialists of Korangi industrial area was convened for their practical involvement in the Green City programme and consultations for their cooperation with the city government.

The industrialists assured the city government that on the desire of the city Nazim, they had started taking practical steps for carrying out plantation around the premises of their factories, besides construction of monuments on major roads of Korangi.

They said that in order to create awareness among the KATI members, the association was introducing a trophy, which would be presented by the Nazim to the industrialists securing first, second and third position in the plantation drive.

The meeting was informed that the city government had prepared a detailed tree plantation report in which the citizens would be provided free consultation and cooperation.

It was informed that according to the experts, plantation of 250 trees cost Rs50,000 besides Rs30,000 on their first year maintenance and Rs10,000 per year thereafter.

For private organizations such types of plants have been selected which cost less.

It was stated that this programme would not be restricted to a specified time frame but would continue till the objectives were achieved.

Spencer Eye Hospital: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Monday, paid a surprise visit to the city government’s Spencer Eye Hospital and checked the attendance of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff.

He expressed displeasure when he found three doctors absent from duty.

On checking of the hospital record, it was found that there was no record of eye operations conducted on Oct 19, while on the 20th, only eight operations were carried out, whereas actually 40 operations had been conducted.

The registers contained no entries or serial numbers and spaces were left unfilled.

On the occasion, visiting patients told Naimatullah Khan that no hospital staff was on duty after 2pm, and despite availability of tests facility within the hospital, they are asked to have the tests done from outside.

He was also informed that no medicines were available in the hospital for the last two months and patients had to buy costly drugs from outside.

The City Nazim expressed concern over deteriorated conditions in the hospital and directed the Medical Superintendent, Niaz Brohi, to take strict disciplinary action against all those responsible for such lapses and redress the patients’ grievances.

Attack condemned: City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has condemned the attack by an excise police inspector on a lady councillor of Bhimpura, Saddar Town, Apa Salma.

The City Nazim, on Monday, directed the DIG Karachi to immediately submit a Challan against the accused inspector before the court.

He visited Civil Hospital and inquired about the injured lady councillor.

Apa Salma was injured when the accused inspector, under the influence of liquor, attacked her while she was in her office onSaturday night.

The accused was arrested that very night and three FIRs were registered against him on the City Nazim’s orders.—APP
