KARACHI: Ten vehicles hijacked, man commits suicide

KARACHI, Oct 22: A man committed suicide in his house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on late on Sunday night.
The police said that Chaudhary Mohammed Rafiq, aged 45, shot himself in the temple after locking himself up in his room in his house in Block 17 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar. Rafiq, a businessman, was facing financial problems and owed money to a business partner, the police said.
The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem.
CARJACKING: Ten vehicles — five cars and an equal number of motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.
Three cars were hijacked in Civil Lines, Saddar, and Bahadurabad. Two others were stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The motorcycles were stolen in Darakhshan (two), Azizabad, Civil Lines, and Ferozabad.
The police also claimed on Monday to have recovered three vehicles in the city.
ROBBERIES: One theft and two robberies were committed in the city on Monday, the police said.
Mohammed Farooq lodged an FIR at New Karachi police station that four unidentified men robbed of him of cash at gunpoint.
Unknown men stole different metals, including iron, steel and brass, from a shop owned by Mohammed Aslam in Korangi.
Mohammed Essa lodged a complaint at Mominabad police station that four armed men barged into his house and got away with valuables, including gold jewellery and a mobile phone.
ROAD ACCIDENT: A man died and another was injured in a head- on collision between two pick-ups in Defence Housing Authority on Monday.
The police said that the driver of Suzuki van (KF-3234), Bakht Mohammed, died when his vehicle collided head on with another Suzuki van (KC-2475) coming from the opposite direction near Sultan Masjid in Defence.
Both the injured men were rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced Bakht dead on arrival. The driver of the other van was admitted to the hospital, the police said.
DIES: A labourer died while working in a factory in Federal B-Area Industrial Area on Monday. The police said that Nawaz Khan, aged 37, died when the shattering he was installing in a factory fell on his head. Nawaz was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
However, the medicolegal officer said that apparently there was no injury marks on the victim’s body, and his post-mortem report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical reports.
