Son Of A Gun bags feature event

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Oct 21: The three-year-old chestnut colt, Son Of A Gun claimed the feature event of the 7th Lahore Winter Meeting at the racecourse on Sunday in a very impressive manner, showing a clean pair of heels to his dozen rivals.

This colt from Shogun out-of-Ginza Gift, Son Of A Gun was backed confidently by his connection from two to one down to 80 to 100.

The bay horse Half Love sprang into the lead from the start but as soon as heads turned for the straight Son Of A Gun levelled up with front-running Half Love.

At this stage the jockey Wajid Hussain cracked a whip in the air and Sun Of A Gun shot like a bullet to take the lead and win the six furlong race by four lengths from Half Love.

The joint favourite bay colt Crown Maker, who was third when the race started finished at the same position, three-and-a-quarter lengths behind Half Love. The roan horse Green Hill completed the frame among thirteen runners.

The winner clocked one minute 13 seconds on the green grass track.

The victory of Son Of A Gun gave a well-deserved double to jockey Wajid Hussain, who had earlier piloted home fancied K-2 to an easy win in the third race of the day.

The fancied bay colt Pole Of Leed , who was backed at prohibitive odds of 30 to 100 in the opener pulled up lame midway through the race and finished third.

The race was won by a rank outsider bay gelding Faheem Choice.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the performance of the dark-bay colt Silver Charm under riding boy A. Imran. He was questioned and not being satisfied with the explanation of A. Imran they suspended his licence for three months.
