SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 21: People belonging to different strata on Sunday denounced the 11 paisa raise in power tariff by the Wapda.

PPP district secretary-general Zahid Chaudhry voiced his concern over the increase in power charges, saying that consumers were already groaning under the burden of utility bills and price-hike in various other commodities.

He said the rise in power tariff would hit hard the growers community who were using electricity to run their tubewells.

Social worker Syed Ibne Hassan said that Wapda officials always found it convenient to raise tariff instead of curbing power theft incidents.

He termed the decision unjust and unwarranted and demanded that the Wapda should withdraw increase in the tariff immediately.

CRUSHED: A minor boy on Sunday was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Bhekhi, some 14 kilometres from here.

Arsalan, 7, was crossing the road when the incident occurred. Bhekhi police have registered a case against the driver, Monsa.

ABDUCTED: A 16-year-old girl on Sunday was allegedly abducted and raped by two vagabonds in nearby Dera Qureshian locality.

The victim was passing through a street when Faqir Hussain and Boota reportedly abducted her and took her to a paddy field where she was raped.

Khanqah Dogran police are investigating.
