RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: Four persons, including an infant, were killed in different incidents in Rawalpindi on Sunday, police said.

Mohammad Sharif, a butcher by profession, was murdered in the Civil Line police area Saturday night, the police said.

Mohammad Rizwan, the victim’s son, told the police that his father was sitting at his shop when he had an exchange of words with Safdar over some long-standing issue.

“When my father was stopping Safdar from sleeping in the cattle-pen, he picked up a knife from my father’s shop and attacked him. As a result, my father was killed on the spot”, the complainant told the police.

The alleged killer managed to escape from the scene, the police said.

In the second incident, a former employee of Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) committed suicide by hanging himself in his Mareer Chowk house, the civil line police said.

Mohammad Ali, aged 27, had been in distress since he was sacked from Wasa, Mushtaq Ali, the victim’s father, told the police. He said his son went into his room at about 10:30pm on Saturday and locked the door.

The next day, when he did not come out of his room, concern grew among the members of the family. When the door was forcibly opened, his body was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope, the victim’s father said.

The body was handed over to the victim’s parents after autopsy, the police said.

In another incident, the police found a plastic bag, containing body of an infant, from a garbage dump in the jurisdiction of Banni police.

The police said some paper-picker noticed the bag and, on opening it, found a mutilated body of an infant girl. The girl is believed to have been strangulated six days ago, police and a doctor said.

Similarly, a 75-year-old man was killed by a speeding vehicle in Gangmandi area, police said.

Abdul Ghani, a gate keeper at a cinema, was crossing a road when the rashly-driven vehicle crushed him to death, the police said.

Earlier, a cyclist was run over by a speeding car near Shakar Parian Chowk on Saturday, the Aabpara police said.

Mohammad Ashiq Khan told the police that his cousin, Zakir Hussain, was coming home on his bicycle, when near Shakar Parian Chowk, a car crushed him to death. The driver was taken into custody by the police.
