KARACHI, Oct 19: Pakistan’s Shahid Zaman’s march in the World Squash Federation Challenge was stopped by Australia’s Paul Price in the quarterfinal, reports received from Melbourne said Friday.

Zaman, the only one of Pakistan’s four players, clearing the second round, was beaten 9-6, 9-2, 9-2 in 44 minutes.

Australia’s Anthony Ricketts continued his fine run, adding 5th seed Olli Tuominen of Finland to his list of upsets in the quarterfinals.

Egypt’s Karim Darvish and Omer Elborolossy ran into each other in the last four stages. Darvish, reigning world junior champion, beat local player John Williams while Elborolossy accounted for Rodney Durbach of South Africa.

MELBOURNE: Australia’s world number one Sarah Fitz-Gerald won a record-equalling fourth World Open on Friday, comfortably beating top-seeded Leilana Joyce of New Zealand 9-0 9-3 9-2 in 44 minutes.

The Australian, playing in her home town, matched the achievement of another New Zealander, Susan Devoy, who previously won four World Open crowns.

Joyce said she felt deflated by the one-sided scoreline.

Fitz-Gerald, who has battled knee problems in recent years, did not drop a game in the tournament.

She had knee surgery twice since winning her third world title in 1998.

Devoy, speaking from Auckland, said for Fitz-Gerald to come back from two knee operations showed what a great player she was.—Reuters
