Shadab and Faisal cane Waqar and company

By Ilyas Beg

LAHORE, Oct 19: A 176 runs third-wicket partnership between Shadab Kabir (88) and Faisal Iqbal (74) on 139 balls and a quickfire 45 off 28 deliveries by Imran Farhat helped the PCB XI turn the tables on the strong Pakistan XI by winning the day and night practice match by three wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium Friday.

The match was seriously disturbed by a fault in the grid station which did not allow the lights to be switched on till 6:30 pm. Later the PCB XI innings was also interrupted due to the problem that caused a very late finish of the game Friday night.

Waqar Younis won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision proved fruitful as the Pakistan XI hit a big total of 268 for seven in 40 overs. Abdur Razzaq (53 on 43 balls, 7 fours and a six) and Naveed Latif added 62 runs for the fifth wicket partnership on 61 balls, consuming only 46 minutes.

Saeed Anwar, sporting a beard made useful 30 on 31 balls having four fours while Shahid Afridi contributed 48 on 42 balls with the help of four big sixes and three fours.

Solid batting by Shadab Kabir and Faisal Iqbal snatched away the advantage from Pakistan XI. Shadab scored 88 on 79 balls and hit a huge six and 13 boundaries.

Faisal Iqbal was equally enterprising as he scored 74 off 76 deliveries and hit nine boundaries. After both were out, Imran Farhat took charge and his lusty hitting facilitated PCB Eleven’s victory. Imran struck a massive six and five boundaries.
