DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 19: Local district and tehsil council members (minority) threatened to take to streets if authorities concerned did not take action against policemen who allegedly trespassed the house of a senior minority councillor.

A Civil Lines police party had intruded into the house of Mrs Mukhtiar Bano on Oct 2 reportedly without any legal permission. It confined female inmates in a room and allegedly tortured councillor’s husband for selling liquor illegally.

The police, led by SHO Haji Zawwar, remained there for at least three hours and also misbehaved with female inmates.

The police also registered a case against Jan Muntazir, an employee of the General Post Office.

When contacted, Jan Muntazir, who was on bail, said that he had licence to buy liquor for personal use, but the police claimed that the licence was being misused.

Meanwhile, district and tehsil council members (minority) on Friday presented a resolution against the police highhandedness which was adopted unanimously.

It may be mentioned that representatives of minority had sent a protest memorandum to president Pervez Musharraf, Amnesty International, UN secretary-general, HRCP and Punjab IGP for taking necessary action against the accused policemen.

PROTEST: A protest rally against American attract on Afghanistan was taken out here after Friday prayers.

Students of the local degree college also joined the procession and blocked the College Road for an hour.
