Phone in remote areas within 24 hours

GUJRANWALA, Oct 18: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Thursday announced a package of new connections within 24 hours in remote areas.

PTCL divisional engineer (telegraphs) Nasir Mahmood Bajwa said interested people could submit applications..

He said that remote areas of Dandian, Gunaur, Kali Soba, Kotli Dilbagh Rai, Qaimpur Wahando, Keryal Kalan, Lalupir, Gilwala, Kot Barey Khan, Mudrassa Chattha, Maju Chak, Kadala Sundhawan, Nanewala, Mansoorwali and Papnas telephone exchanges were included in the package.

DOCTORS MEET SSP: A delegation of doctors and surgeons of the DHQ Hospital and private clinics met the SSP on Thursday and voiced their worries over the police failure in arresting the killers of PDA president Dr Ghulam Rasul.

Led by Pakistan Medical Association president Dr Gulzar Ahmad, the delegation asked the SSP for the early arrest of the outlaws.

The SSP assured the delegation that the accused would soon be apprehended.

Robber killed: One of the three robbers was killed when the motorcycle they had snatched from a passer-by met an accident on the Naushera Road here on Thursday.

Three robbers, including the brother of a councillor, snatched a motorcycle from passer-by Muhammad Amin and drove away with it.

Amin reported the matter to the Baghbanpura police who chased the robbers. They became jittery and as a result their speeding motorcycle skidded of the road.

Muhammad Riaz, who sustained serious injuries, died on the way to the hospital and Badiauz Zaman, brother of councillor Saifullah, sustained serious injuries and was arrested. Mujahid Hussain, their third accomplice, managed to escape.

City SP Mushtaq Hussain said the arrested accused had confessed to his involvement in several cases of dacoity and robbery in Garjakh and Baghbanpura areas.

Police also recovered two pistols and a motorcycle from their possession.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have busted four members of a gang of dacoits, including ring leader Billa, and recovered arms and looted goods from their possession.

RALLY: Religious parties will take out a protest rally after the Friday prayers against the US-led coalition attacks on Afghanistan and killing of innocent people.

The decision was taken at a meeting of religious parties and the Pak-Afghanistan Defence Council held here on Thursday.

The meeting also gave approval of its local units in tehsil and towns to bring out protest rallies after the prayers.

It adopted a unanimous resolution, demanding immediate release of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leaders Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Maulana Samiul Haq and SSP chief Maulana Azam Tariq.

ALLOCATED: A sum of Rs189.236 million has been allocated for 10 sewerage and four water supply schemes during the current fiscal year.

This decision was taken at a meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) managing director. Engineers and other senior officials of the Wasa were also present on the occasion.

The Wasa MD said the schemes would be completed on priority basis.

RESULT: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, will announce the results of the matric supplementary examination, 2001, on Monday.

This was stated by the controller examination Abid Saleem Khan here on Thursday.
