PESHAWAR, Oct 18: The NWFP is likely to get substantial funds from world donor agencies in return for Pakistan’s support of the West’s war against terrorism.

“Donor agencies from Germany, Norway and Britain have shown an interest in investing in the NWFP’s social sector,” a senior officer of the provincial government said.

Funds would be diverted to the NWFP from the overall aid promised by the agencies to Islamabad as a goodwill gesture towards the country’s support of the US-sponsored war. Government authorities have asked provincial governments to identify, design and submit development projects/schemes for their onward submission to the donor agencies.

In response, the NWFP government has submitted proposals for over 20 projects/schemes. The schemes pertain to education, health, social welfare, agriculture, forest, environment, water and power. They include some of the schemes that could not be executed, in the past, because of non-availability of funds from the provincial government.

Although the province has not received any indication of the amount likely to be provided, it hopes to get a substantial sum.
