BAJAUR: Jirga bans public meetings in Bajaur

BAJAUR, Oct 18: Tribal chieftains and elders decided on Thursday to impose a ban on public meetings, processions, demonstrations and display of arms in the Bajaur Agency.

They also asked the local administration to take what-ever steps it considered necessary for the well-being of the people.

The elders hailing from Mamond, Salarzai, Utmankhel, Arang Barang, Nawagai, Khar, Chahar Mang, Urshamozai and Alizai areas had convened a Loya Jirga, that decided that a complete ban should be imposed on holding of public meetings, demonstrations, processions and display of arms in the agency.

The Jirga unanimously decided that no political or religious party would be allowed to hold public meetings or stage demonstrations in the Bajaur Agency.

It further decided that if any body violated the decision of the Jirga, he would be fined Rs700,000 and expelled from the Agency.
