KARACHI: Anti-war campaign launched

KARACHI, Oct 18: Speakers at a meeting on Wednesday condemned the bombing of Afghanistan and demanded an immediate halt to it.

They also demanded that the issue be resolved through negotiations under the umbrella of the United Nations.

Speaking at the meeting organised by the Labour Party of Pakistan, they said that a large number of innocent Afghan people, particularly women and children, were being killed in the high-tech carpet bombing being carried out by the United States.

They said that the United States wanted to establish its military bases in the region to control the resources and its interests.

They announced the launching of the “Campaign for a Peaceful Pakistan” and said that they would launch a movement to creat awareness among the masses regarding the real designs of the United States.

They also announced to take out a peaceful procession from Lines Area to Mazar-i-Quaid on Tuesday afternoon.

Dost Mohammad Channa, Raja Sarfaraz, Sartaj Khan, Ghulam Akber and spoke at the meeting attended by the representatives of various parties and NGOs including Pakistan Trade Union Federation, PNP, Roots, International Socialist Group, Shelter for Shelterless, HRCP, Karachi University, APWA College, WAR, WAF and Women Help line.
