Windies say Pakistan tour still on
KARACHI, Oct 17: West Indies cricket officials have assured that they have no plans to call off the scheduled Pakistan tour early next year but developments at the international front would play a major role in this regard, an official said Wednesday.
“I met West Indies Board officials and its Chief Executive Gregory Shillingford has assured me that the West Indies will tour Pakistan next year,” Pakistan Cricket Board director Brig Munawwar Rana told SADA from Kuala Lumpur.
West Indies is due to play three Tests and as many One-day Internationals in Pakistan in March-February next year but uncertain situation in the region has raised doubts about the tour.
“Apprehensions exist at the international level but the West Indian officials did not say anything specific,” Rana informed.
New Zealand cricket team cancelled its planned tour to Pakistan last month due to security fears. Pakistan’s plan to hold a short series against Sri Lanka could not materialize for the same reason.
“We have sent them (West Indies officials) a proposed itinerary and expect them to approve it after minor changes,” Rana said.
He said all eyes are on the West Indies’ tour to Sri Lanka next month as it would make things clear for Pakistan.
The two-day ICC Executive Board meeting begins Thursday. —SADA
