ISLAMABAD, Oct 17: Former Davis Cup star Hameedul Haq swept aside No. 7 seed Muhammad Nadeem in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to set up a date with top seed Asim Shafik in the quarterfinal of the 18th Federal Cup championships Wednesday.
Hameed, the No 10 seed, needed just 30 minutes to complete the rout of his rival at the Islamabad Club on a day when Rashid Malik, another top player of yesteryear, also had it easy. He blanked Muhammad Saeed 6-0, 6-0 to make the quarters where he will now take on 9th seed Mahmood Khan who eliminated fifth seed Muhammad Shafik 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Asim Shafik barely faced any problems in his match against Shahzad Khan and walked off a 6-0, 6-1 victor.
Unseeded Younis Khan knocked out 8th seed Shahid Khan 6-2, 0- 6, 6-4 and will now be up against Nomi Qamar, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Inam Gul.
The fourth quarterfinal will see Saeedul Haq facing off Kamran Khalil after Saeed ousted Shahzad 6-3, 6-1 and Kamran beat Pervaiz Khan 6-1, 7-5.
