20 booked for water theft

KASUR, Oct 17: Twenty farmers were booked for stealing irrigation water on Wednesday.

Irrigation department’s Kanganpur and Pattoki SDOs raided Dera Singhwala, Chahl, Fateh Muhammad and Dhadian villages. They found Rahmat, Qudratullah, Noor Muhammad, Saleem, Saeed and 15 others irrigating their lands illegally from minors.

Kanganpur and Mustafabad police have registered cases.

DEATH FOR KILLER: Additional district and sessions judge Jahandad Khan awarded on Wednesday death sentence and Rs50,000 fine to Rahmat Ali alias Bhamani for murdering his rival.

In case of non-payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment of six months.

According to the prosecution, Rahmat had on May 5, 1998, shot dead Muhammad Mansha over an old enmity at Dhari Mianwali in the jurisdiction of Kanganpur police station.

Meanwhile, additional district and sessions judge Mian Arshad Mahmood awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs5,000 each to Muhammad Mansha and Muhammad Niaz for injuring two people.

In case of non-payment of fine, the convicts will have to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment of one month each. The judge acquitted nine other accused, including Ishfaq, Kala, giving them the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, the convicts injured Mian Muhammad Saeed, Sajid Saeed and their friends over an old enmity in Mustafabad.

ACCIDENT: A woman was killed while her son was injured in a road accident near Phoolnagar on Wednesday.

According to details, Shamim Bibi and her son were waiting for a bus at Adda Sarai Cheena when a speeding tractor-trolley (GAB-4026) hit them. Shamim died on the spot while her son was injured seriously.

Police have registered a case against tractor driver Sajid Iqbal.

WINE SEIZED: Rangers arrested two smugglers and recovered 61 bottles of Indian wine from their possession near Chathianwala on Wednesday.

Rangers, on a tip-off, raided a place near Chathianwala and arrested Muhammad Waris and Muhammad Ishfaq who had entered Pakistan with 61 bottles of Indian wine.

Mustafabad police have registered a case.
