MARDAN , Oct 17: A PPP leader, Abid Ali Shah, advocate, has condemned US -led airstrikes on Afghanistan and termed them terrorist acts, which would , he warned, bring misery to the region.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he lamented that Afghanistan, which had already been ruined by the Soviet forces, was now being devastated by those who had earlier supported Afghans in their freedom struggle.

He suggested that the Organization of Islamic Conference should come forward and play its role in saving Afghanistan from further destruction.

ELECTION: Results of the by-election, held in three union councils of Mardan district, was announced on Tuesday, according to which, a local journalist won the Bari Cham Hoti union council seat.

INSTITUTION: Col Maqsood, principal of the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed School and College, has said that the army institution is providing best educational facilities to the people of the area.

Talking to Dawn, Col Maqsood said the institution, established in 1987, was upgraded to the college level in 1994. However, co-education was discontinued as it was against tradition and culture of the local people, and a separate section was opened for girls, he added.
