Tariq rescues Wapda with 109

Published October 16, 2001

KARACHI, Oct 15: A fighting knock of 109 by Tariq Aziz helped recover from a disastrous 34 for five to 280 for nine in their first innings against PWD in the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I tie at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad Monday.

According to details available here, Tariq’s 226 balls innings which spanned 277 minutes neutralised PWD’s advantage of winning the toss and electing to field first.

Further useful contributions by wicket-keeper Zahid Umer (51 off 90 balls) and paceman Kashif Raza, who is batting on 60 off 109 deliveries, consolidated Wapda’s position in face-saving partnerships with Tariq.

Tariq engineered the rescue operation by putting on 118 for the sixth wicket with Zahid and 57 with Kashif before he was trapped LBW by all-rounder Bilal Asad.
