RAWALPINDI, Oct 15: Spin ace Mushtaq Ahmed captured five wickets Monday as title-chasing National Bank bowled out Allied Bank for 266 on the first day of their Patron’s Trophy Grade-I match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Mushtaq, whose wickets came at regular intervals, gave away 78 runs in 17 overs four of which were maiden.
Among his victims was Naved Latif who had appeared to be settling down well, having scored 59. Mushtaq was well supported by paceman Shabbir Ahmed who captured three for 60.
In reply, National Bank were 65 for one at close of play. Paceman Aaqib Javed drew first blood when he trapped Shahid Anwar for eight. Imran Nazir stood on the brink of his half century this season with an unbeaten 41.
After National Bank, who had 24 points going into this match won the toss and chose to field, Allied Bank’s total revolved around Naved, who skipped the national camp at Lahore, and Humayun Farhat who also scored a half century and a knock of 36 by opener Usman Tariq. However, no other batsman was able to impress much and National Bank needed only 68 overs to dismiss them all.
