Recovery of dues: notice issued to ex-PM sugar mills

TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 14: Gojra tehsil Nazim and the market committee have issued a notice to Chaudhry Sugar Mills owned by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to clear the outstanding market fee of Rs20.065 million.

A source said that mills had to pay the market fee for crushing seasons between 1992-93 and 2000-2001. So far it paid only Rs3.65 million out of Rs20.43 million outstanding payment.

The notice warned the mills that the market committee would impose 11-fold penalty if it failed to pay the remaining amount.

The mills also owes millions of rupees to sugar cane growers for the last crushing season.

SHIFTING: The tehsil municipal council is considering a proposal to shift the general bus stand and fruit and vegetables market outside the town.

This was stated by tehsil Nazim Muhammad Rafiq at a meeting held here to review the law and order situation.

ASP Akhtar Abbas informed the meeting that transporters had arranged metal detectors to avoid any act of terrorism.

ROADS: All roads of the district council have been handed over to the provincial Highways department with immediate effect.

A source said now the construction and repair of all roads would be the responsibility of the Highways department.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government is also planning to hand over all educational institutions of municipal committees to district governments, it is learnt.

MENTAL HEALTH: District Nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq has directed the Health EDO to prepare a plan to set up a psychiatry department at the DHQ Hospital.

Speaking at a seminar on the mental health, he said the sale and use of narcotics was the major cause of growing mental diseases in society.

Pakistan Medical Association secretary-general Dr Afzal Duggal, Punjab Medical College assistant professor (Psychiatry) Dr Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar, Health EDO Dr Zulfiqar Ali and DCO Saleem Akhtar Kiani also spoke on the occasion.
